Iskitimsky City Museum of History and Art

The Iskitim City Museum for History and Art was opened on November 4, 1977 in the building created by the reconstruction of a typical school building and the superstructure of the second floor.

The first decade of the museum existence is the period of fledging and formation of funds. At this time, a significant part of the exhibits was collected. Replenishment of funds was carried out at the expense of local residents: there were interesting exhibits, which marked the beginning of the collection of household items of peasants of Siberia of the late XIX-early XX centuries., collection of icons, numismatics, documents and written sources. During this period, the source of replenishment of funds were also expeditions of the museum staff in the Iskitimsky district of the Novosibirsk region. Thanks to the collected material the first expositions and exhibitions were opened in the museum. They included the following ones: "Iskitim-participants of the Great Patriotic War", "Civil War in Siberia", "Agriculture of Iskitimsky district", "The life of the peasants of Siberia".

Large exhibition areas of the museum (1,400 square meters) allowed placement of exhibitions of many Novosibirsk and Siberian artists (V.K. Chebanov, A.V. Kuzmin, P.L. Porotnikov, V.D. Krechetov, V.M. Grankin, etc.).

Currently, the museum keeps about 30 collections, the funds account for 21,344 items. The museum has collected a large amount of material, accumulated experience in organizing of exhibitions, a lot of traditions: Decades of military glory, Days of memory of victims of Stalin's repressions, Shukshin's readings, competition of readers dedicated to the memory of V.M. Shukshin, Iskitim art exhibition, exhibitions of arts and crafts, educational programs for children. Every year the museum opens about 50 different exhibitions.

How to get there: the distance from the city of Novosibirsk to the city of Iskitim is 58 km by car. One can get to the city of Iskitim by electric train on the routes "Novosibirsk-Main-Iskitim", "Novosibirsk-Main-Lozhok", "Novosibirsk-Main-Dorogino", "Novosibirsk-Main-Cherepanovo".
One can get from the Novosibirsk bus station (43a Dmitriya Shamshurina ul.) to the city of Iskitim by bus on the routes "Novosibirsk-Maslyanino", "Novosibirsk-Barnaul", "Novosibirsk-Belokurikha", "Novosibirsk-Gorno-Altaysk", "Novosibirsk-Suzun", "Novosibirsk-Biysk", "Novosibirsk-Rubtsovsk", "Novosibirsk-Zarinsk", "Novosibirsk-Chemal", "Tomsk-Belokurikha", "Yurga-Belokurikha".
