The Victory Monument
The Victory Monument itself is a memorial for Siberian inhabitants who took part in the Great Patriotic War. It was founded in November 6, 1967. The Monument ranges among Russian cultural heritage sites. Its’ complex includes the symbolic monument of “a mother marked by sorrow”, an eternal light, five ten-meters high pillars and four urn with ground taken from the places where sanguinary battles took place. The names of 30266 Novosibirsk residents who have died during the Great Patriotic War were cast in metal and pressed into the walls of five massive concrete pillars. This magnifical monument’s area is almost 2 hectares. Behind the complex 100 fir-trees were planted to make a parkway in honor of the Heroes of the Soviet Union.
In addition, the complex includes the Monument “To the Unity of the Forefront and Back Areas” dedicated to labor veterans who were employed by defense enterprises during the War, a chapel of George the Conqueror, the missile launcher “Katyusha” and tank T-34 – the legendary examples of soviet military machinery.
