Memorial Stele to the Hero of the Soviet Union D.T. Pastukhov
Dmitrii Timofeevich Pastukhov (1923-1949) was born in the village of Mezheumka, Altai Krai, Abinsky Village Council, in a large family. He finished seven forms of Sentelekskaya Junior High School. Before the war, he worked in the editorial office of the Charyshsky district newspaper, at the position of the Secretary-Machinist.
In 1941 he went to the front. He received his first baptism by fire while defending the capital. Guard Major Sergeant . Assistant of platoon commander, engineering-and-mortar company of the 22nd guards holding the Order of the Red Banner, order of Bogdan Khmelnitskii of the II degree, order of Suvorov of the II degree, Faustian motorized rifle brigade. He was wounded 5 times. He was awarded with the following medals: medal "For bravery", orders of "Red Star", "Patriotic war", "Glory of III degree", "Gold Star of the Hero".
On April 24, 1945 the brigade received the mission to cross the Teltow Canal. All the bridges across the canal went off. The enemy shore was fortified. Approaches to the canal were shot through by strong sniper, rifle-machine-gun fire of the opponent. The department of sappers led by guards senior sergeant Pastukhov received the task to ferry a motorized rifle battalion to the enemy shore. In preparation, a boat was pulled up to the shore. Under heavy enemy fire, the squad began the crossing. Skillfully working with oars, sergeant personally made 12 passages. Having transported shooters, despite losses in staff of the division, the sergeant D.T. Pastukhov with division went to make passes in barriers. He himself removed 14 anti-personnel mines. The path was cleared for the infantry. The task was accomplished.
For the correct organization of the crossing and the courage, heroism and skill shown at the same time, guard sergeant Pastukhov was awarded the highest government award, i.e. the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
After the war, Dmitrii Timofeevich returned to work in the editorial office, at the position of the Executive Secretary. He became seriously ill with tuberculosis. He was twice treated in the Berdsk Tuberculosis Sanatorium, where he died on April 7, 1949. He was 26 years old. He was buried in the city of Berdsk in the old cemetery.
Memorial Stele to the Hero of the Soviet Union D.T. Pastukhov is located in the street of the same name. Representatives of military-patriotic clubs maintain its proper condition. Flowers are laid at the memorial on the Day of the Heroes of the Fatherland, on December 9.
