The natural monument “Berdsk Rocks”
The nature monument “Berdsk Rocks” is known as the “St. John's wort”. It is a rocky site with a length of 1.3 km. Since 2000 the territory has the status of a natural monument of the regional importance. Here you can find “kurums” - talus of large stones, peculiar stone rivers. The width of this section is about 300 m. They are not typical for this territory and are the exceptional feature of the Berdsk rocks.
87 species of higher vascular plants were identified on the territory of the nature monument. 48 species of birds, 19 species of small mammals, 2 species of lizards, more than 400 species of invertebrates are living here. Among the species of animals classified as the main objects of protection, there are the following species: gray or Altai marmots, common beetroot, long-tailed owl, common oak (Red Book of the Novosibirsk region), butterflies Machaon (Red Book of the USSR), Apollo (Red Books of the USSR, Russia and the Novosibirsk Region), bumblebee (Red Books of the USSR, Russia and the Novosibirsk Region), dragonflies (Red Book of the Novosibirsk Region).
The vegetation of Berdsk rocks is interesting and diverse. The mountainous slopes of the Berdy Valley and the territory above the valley are covered with the mixed forest with predominance of pine and birch. Aspen, caragana tree, bird cherry and various willow species are common in these forests.
The protected object on the territory of the monument is mosses growing on rocks. In total there are 49 species of mosses.
On the territory of the natural monument it is allowed the collection of berries by the population, amateur and sport fishing, conducting excursions. Doing any business, the organization of tourist camps, making fires, the collection of rare and endangered, as well as ornamental plant species, mushrooms are prohibited.
You can get to Berdsk Rocks by land and by water - rafting along the river Berd. The monument is a popular tourist place (including fans of rafting). The ecological trail “St. John's wort” was opened here. More details about it: www.turizm.nso.ru/ru/content/ekologicheskaya-tropa-zveroboy
Location: the Novosibirsk region, Iskitim district, right side of the Berd River, 4 km to the south-east from Novososedovo village
How to get there: the distance between Iskitim to the ntural monument is 75km by car, from Novosibirsk to the natural monument – 130 km by car.
There are the scheduled trains from Novosibirsk-Glavny Train Station to Iskitim. From Novosibirsk Bus Terminal there are as well scheduled buses to Iskitim. There is scheduled bus from Iskitim to Novososedovo village, and from Novososedovo village to the natural monument you can get by car or hitchhiking.
