Museum of the History of Architecture of Siberia named after S.N. Balandin
The Museum for the History of Architecture of Siberia named after S.N. Balandin is located in the Novosibirsk State University for Architecture, Design and Arts (NSUADA). The idea of creation of the museum belonged to the famous Siberian architect Andrei Dmitrievich Kriachkov (1876-1950). The direct creator of the museum was professor, Doctor of Architecture Sergei Nikolaevich Balandin. The cultural institution was founded in 1995.
The original projects of Novosibirsk and Tomsk students-architects of the 1920s-2010s, a collection related to the activities of the architect A.D. Kriachkov, the most complete archive of photographs and project documentation related to the construction of the Novosibirsk Opera House are presented among the most valuable exhibits of the museum.
The Museum has 4 thematic halls. The first presents coursework and theses of students from 1924 to the present. The second hall exhibits the history of the development of Siberian architecture from ancient times to the present. The third hall is dedicated to the greatest teachers-architects, the fourth presents the creative heritage of A.D. Kriachkov. The separate exhibition is devoted to the personality of the founder of the museum, i.e. to S.N. Balandin.
In addition, a visit to the museum includes a visit to the gallery of window frames and fragments of house carving, which were once used for decoration of the houses in the city of Novonikolayevsk (modern Novosibirsk). Upon a request of visitors, the tour can include a review of exhibitions of contemporary works by students and teachers of NSUADI (the Novosibirsk State University for Architecture, Design and Arts) and a tour of the University-Monument of Architecture in 1924.
Since 2006, every year on April 18, at the birthday of the founder, the All-Russian (with international participation) Scientific Conference "Balandin's readings", dedicated to the history of Siberian architecture and urban planning is held, and a collection of scientific articles is published.
In 2004-2005 the "School of tour guides" with the issuance of certificates was established and conducted at the museum. In 2007-2011, the museum regularly participated in the Inter-university competition of excursion projects and professional skills of tour guides under the auspices of NSTU (the Novosibirsk State Technical University).
One of the areas of the museum's activities is exhibitions outside NSUADI (the Novosibirsk State University for Architecture, Design and Arts). In 2016, the exhibition "Project: Restoration", dedicated to the works of students-architects, made in the city of Novosibirsk in the war and the first postwar years, was presented at the site of the Novosibirsk Museum of Local History. The Museum presents itself at the exhibitions "Tursib", "Uchsib", in the action "Immortal regiment", "Evening in the Museum". As part of the "Museum night" museum staff annually takes part in the preparation and conduct of the night city "tours with lanterns" together with the Museum of the city of Novosibirsk and NSTU (of the Novosibirsk State Technical University).
Upon the request of schools and libraries, the museum conducts popular science lectures on architecture and history of the city of Novosibirsk.
