The Federal State Budgetary Institution "Novosibirsk Scientific-and-Research Institute for Traumatology and Orthopedics named after Ia.L. Tsivian" of the Ministry of Public Health of the Russian Federation (NSRITO named after Ia.L. Tsivian) was established as the Institute for Reconstructive Surgery, Traumatology and Orthopedics on May 1946. The Novosibirsk Scientific-and-Research Institute for Traumatology and Orthopedics is one of the largest centers in Russia, where high-tech care to patients with pathology of the musculoskeletal system, central and peripheral nervous system is provided.

The Institute carries out fundamental scientific research and applied developments, providing Russian Public Health with advanced medical technologies.

The pride of Novosibirsk Scientific-and-Research Institute for Traumatology and Orthopedics is the diagnostic complex that performs a complete cycle of diagnostics, starting from radiography to modern computer multi-section tomography, ultrasound diagnostics.

Patients with the consequences of spinal cord injury, after neuro-orthopedic, neurosurgical manipulations and replacement arthroplasty, as well as children with congenital pathology of the musculoskeletal system, receive courses of conservative treatment at the rehabilitation complex. In addition to physical therapy, therapeutic exercise, therapeutic massage, manual therapy, robotic feedback therapy and kinesiotherapy are used.

Clinics of the Novosibirsk Scientific-and-Research Institute for Traumatology and Orthopedics are represented by divisions: pediatric and adolescent vertebrology, pediatric orthopedics, traumatology, spinal cord injury, neurovertebrology, endoprosthetics and endoscopic joint surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology and intensive care, rehabilitation treatment.

The Clinic for Pediatric Vertebrology is the only clinic in Russia that deals exclusively with the treatment of spinal deformities of any origin. This is the only clinic in the country where the modern method of VEPTR has found wide application. The unique tools can be used starting from the age of 1-1.5 years in special forms of idiopathic scoliosis.

Children with orthopedic pathology receive a full range of surgical treatment at the pediatric orthopedics clinic.

At the Novosibirsk Scientific-and-Research Institute for Traumatology and Orthopedics named after Ia.L. Tsivian patients are treated within the framework of the state program on the provision of high-tech medical care in the areas of traumatology, orthopedics and neurosurgery. This type of medical care is carried out according to the planned task (quotas) allocated by the Ministry of Public Health of the Russian Federation.

Diagnosis and treatment are carried out at the Novosibirsk Scientific-and-Research Institute for Traumatology and Orthopedics named after Ia.L. Tsivian according to the world medical standards, which have proved their high efficiency. In 2004, the Institute received the certificate of conformity of the quality management system due to the international standard ISO 9001:2000 for the provision of medical-and-preventive care for adults and children in the field of traumatology, orthopedics and neurosurgery.

The unique laboratory has been established at the Scientific-and-Research Institute for Traumatology and Orthopedics, the main activity of which is the preparation and preservation of biological tissues for their subsequent use in clinical practice. This laboratory is the only scientific unit working on the problem of stocking, sterilization, preservation and transportation of tissues in the Asian region of Russia. Transplants are used in traumatology and orthopedics (for bone-and-plastic manipulations, tendon grafting), neurosurgery (for plastic of defects of the Dura mater and cranial vault), ophthalmology (for scleroplasty and prosthetics of the eyeball), otolaryngology, maxillofacial surgery, surgical dentistry and periodontics, oncology, etc.

The Institute is known and respected abroad as an institution with many years of experience and traditions in the field of vertebrology and is the major training center on the ground of the license to conduct educational activities.
