The Puppet Theater of the city of Novosibirsk began its history on September 1, 1933 by the artists of the Young Spectator's Theater. The State Central Puppet Theater (SCPT) under the leadership of the world's outstanding puppeteer Sergei Obraztsov was evacuated from the city of Moscow to the city of Novosibirsk during the Great Patriotic War. This famous team had a huge impact on the professional growth of Novosibirsk artists. At that time the actors worked hard not only in Siberia, but also went on long tours to the frontline areas with performances and concerts.
In the period of 1950-1980, the team was based in various premises, often poorly adapted for the theater. At this time there was a formation of professional collective. By the late 80's the Novosibirsk Regional Puppet Theater became one of the best puppet theaters in the country. The artists toured throughout the whole Soviet Union and regularly presented their performances in the cities of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan. In the 80-90s creativity of the Novosibirsk puppeteers became known not only in Russia and neighboring countries but also far beyond the former Soviet Union. The artists took part in international festivals of puppet theaters in the cities of Moscow, Japan, Thailand, USA and France.
In September 1999 the Novosibirsk Regional Puppet Theater opened the 65th theatrical season in the new building with an auditorium for up to 200 seats in the center of the city of Novosibirsk in the 22 Lenina str. It was recognized as an architectural monument of regional significance on February 16, 1987.
Currently, theater performances introduce viewers to their favorite plots of fairy tales of national drama and puppet classics. The repertoire policy of the theater is formed within the framework of the program "FAIRY TALES OF THE PEOPLES OF THE WORLD", during the course of which staging of performances based on the children's literature of foreign authors, as well as events promoting the introduction of the younger generation to the culture, literature, painting, music and traditions of the countries of the world are performed.
