The Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre
Since the opening of Glinka's opera "Ivan Susanin" on May 12, 1945, the theater has established itself as one of the best musical-and-theatrical groups in the country, which is confirmed by participation in international and Russian festivals, with many professional awards, and an extensive map of tours. The building of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater is considered to be the symbol and pride of the Siberian region. It was recognized as an architectural monument of the federal importance on December 4, 1974, and is protected by the state.
The theater strengthened its position in the international cultural space in the 1990s. The theater teams actively give performances on tours in different countries, implementing international projects, i.e. ballet "Argo", opera "Magic flute" and "Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District" (together with various theaters and cultural institutions of Germany).
This line was continued in the XXI century. Theatrical life was stirred up by the Russian premiere of Alfred Schnittke's Opera "Life with an idiot", held in 2003. The performance was prepared by an international team. After the Russian premiere within the framework of "Year of Russia in Germany", it gave performances on tours in various German cities. "Melancholy", "Carmen" and "The Bohemians" were prepared in collaboration with the "Grand-Opera" in Busan (Republic of Korea). The event that had a global resonance was the staging of Verdi's Opera "Macbeth": the first Russian co-production with the Paris Opera made the city of Novosibirsk the center of international opera life in December 2008.
The mission of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater today is to be an open space and a center for attraction of creative forces. Theater should become a "barrier-free environment" and a point of growth for all arts.
