ALEXANDER NEVSKY CATHEDRAL
On December 1999, 100 years have passed since the consecration day of Alexander Nevsky. The Cathedral was built in neo-Byzantine style as a memorial church to the organizer of the Great Siberian Route to Emperor Alexander III the Peacemaker. This is the first stone building in the city.
The builder is a nobleman, engineer Nikolai Tikhomirov (1857-1900) is one of the founders of Novonikolaevsk. The construction began in 1896. The cathedral was consecrated on December 29, 1899 by Makarios the Bishop of Tomsk and Barnaul.
In the early 30's of XX century the cathedral was closed. In the 1940s the building was occupied by institute “Promstroiproekt”. From 1957 to 1984 it housed by West Siberian newsreel studio. After return of the cathedral to the Russian Orthodox Church, it was again consecrated on May 15, 1991 by Alexey II the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia.
Its restoration began immediately after the return of the church to the Russian Orthodox Church in 1989.
Nowadays, the church services are performed every day.
The Orthodox Brotherhood and the Orthodox Sisterhood, which are functioning at the cathedral, help the poor, support large families, conduct anti-abortion and educational activities. At the cathedral since 2003 the Pilgrimage Center works.

Service: Liturgy daily from 9:00am; evening service from 5:00 pm; Confession daily: on weekdays from 9:00am, on Sundays and holidays from 8:00am; Christening is performed after a preliminary interview, the first conversation is every Sunday at 4:00pm.
