The natural monument “Medvezhy Island”
The natural monument of the regional importance “Medvezhy Island” was founded on April 22, 2008. The island is an ancient landscape, located in Lake Chany. The total area of the monument is 548.6 hectares.
In the recent years the island has become shorter from the south-western cape: the wind and waves destroy the sandy soil, washing away the roots of trees.
On the territory of the natural monument there are 73 species of plants, 120 species of terrestrial vertebrates and 419 species of invertebrate animals, and 357 species of insects. There are the species of animals listed in the Red Book of the Novosibirsk Region, like birds: osprey, steppe eagle, white-tailed eagle, large spotted eagle, peregrine falcon, sandpiper, black-headed eagle, taiga-tailed gull, mute swan, red-billed goose, pelican curly (Red Books of Russia And the Novosibirsk region) and 3 types of insects: the spotted spiny bumblebee, the beetle-toothed bumblebee and the beetle convolute beetle (Red Book of the Novosibirsk Region).
It is allowed the collection of berries, amateur and sport fishing, excursions. Prohibited: economic activities, the collection of rare and endangered, as well as decorative plant species, mushrooms, making fires, the organization of tourist camps.
Location: the Novosibirsk region, Chanovsky district, 4 km away from Tagan village
How to get there: the distance from Chany village to the natural monument is 63 km by car, the distance from Novosibirsk to the natural monument is 470 km by car. From Tagan village to the island you can get by boat.
There is the scheduled train from Novosibirsk-Glavny Train Station goes to Chany Station, as well there is scheduled bus from Novosibirsk Bus Terminal.
