The natural monument “Stony steppe”
The total area of the nature monument “Stony Steppe” is 23 hectares. It was founded in 2000 with the aim to keep the specific plant and animal of the territory.
The monument is a small hill, the northern side is covered with a birch forest, and the southern side is rocky. Folded with limestone hill is interesting because there are karst manifestations on it, which is quite rare in the Novosibirsk region.
On the northern slope of the hill there is a cave known to the speleologists as “Novososedovo”. The entrance to it is located at the bottom of the karst funnel and represents a narrow track of 40x60 cm, going vertically downwards. In Novososedovo cave there are stalactites, however, quite tiny - up to 1 cm in length.
Scientific and environmental importance is mainly the southern part of the hill, which is the natural monument. On the territory there are four species of plants listed in the Red Book of the Novosibirsk region. 35 species of birds, 14 species of small mammals, 2 species of lizards, some insect species (Apollo butterfly, unusual bumblebee) also listed in the Red Book of the Novosibirsk Region.
On the territory of the natural monument it is allowed to collect berries, fishing, and excursions. Prohibited: economic activities, the collection of rare and endangered, as well as decorative plant species, mushrooms, make fires, the organization of tourist camps.

How to get there: the distance between Iskitim and the natural monument “Stony steppe” is 79 km by car, from Novosibirsk to the natural monument – 130 km by car.
You can take a train from Novosibirsk-Glavny Railway Station Iskitim town or a bus from Novosibirsk Bus Terminal. And then take a scheduled bus from Iskitim to Novososedovo village.
