The building of Metropol hotel
The building of Metropol hotel was built in 1905 by Tomsk architect K. Ligin. In the beginning the building was constructed as a residential house of entrepreneur P. A. Mamontov. Later it was bought by the Head of the City Duma A. Y. Istomin. In 1917 the hotel was opened here and had 14 rooms, where the bathrooms were set up for the first time in the city. Here on the night of May 26, 1918 it was made the decision about the organization of the white guard rebellion against the Soviet regime. Due to sudden attacks to the red army barracks, the white army captured the strategic enterprises and objects. Year and half the city was leaded by the white army.
In the 20s, the house was given to communal apartments and experienced a chaotic redevelopment. At the end of XX century the apartments were rented by commercial firms. Now the building belongs to the coal mining company “Siberian anthracite”, it is in repair and restoration work process.
The building of “Metropol” hotel was recognized as a monument of architecture of regional significance on February 16, 1987.
