Novosibirsk State Circus
The Novosibirsk Circus is part of the company "The Russian State Circus Company", the largest circus company not only in Europe but also in the whole world. It unites 42 stationary circuses throughout Russia in total.
Separate circus stages were shown in the city of Novonikolayevsk (since 1926 – Novosibirsk) for the first time in booths on national festivities in the early XX century. Non-repertory companies, which gave performances in wooden buildings, were operating in the city since 1910.
On February 11, 1971, the Novosibirsk Circus gave the first performance in the new building. It was designed in the Moscow Institute "Giproteater" as a multifunctional building since it can be used as circus, as concert hall, and as hall of mass meetings. There are 2,300 seats in the hall.
It is worth paying attention to the roof of the circus: instead of a traditional dome, the coating consists of the shell, namely of the hyperbolic paraboloid.
