Novosibirsk International Airport named after Alexander Pokryshkin
The history of Novosibirsk International Airport named after Alexander Pokryshkin began with the construction of a military airfield in 1941 in a military camp at the Ob station. In 1951 the construction of the new runway with the length of 2,100 meters began. The runway is currently operated after its modernization.
On July 12, 1957 Jet Tu-104 made the first passenger flight № 020 Novosibirsk — Moscow (Captain V.M. Kupalo) with a stopover in Sverdlovsk. The plane carried 50 passengers to the capital.
On December 1, 1957 the first terminal building of the Tolmachevo Airport including a waiting hall, check-in area, telegraph, cash registers and baggage claim area were put into operation. The building now is a control tower.
Since 1972, the passenger traffic through the Tolmachevo Airport exceeded 1 million passengers per year. Even despite the decline in performance in the hard
1990-s’ years, traffic volumes at the Tolmachevo Airport always remained the largest among airports in the Siberia.
In 1996 the rapidly growing passenger traffic on international airlines demanded expansion of the airport terminal complex — the International Terminal capacity of 450 passengers per hour started servicing charter flights to China, Germany, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates and other countries.
Due to its favourable location and availability of an extensive route network, Novosibirsk International Airport traditionally maintains a significant number of passengers not only from the Novosibirsk region but also from the surrounding region — Tomsk, Kemerovo, the Altai Krai and the Altai Republic.
The modern International Airport serves 1800 passengers per hour at domestic flights and 750 passengers at international flights.
There are regular flights to: St. Petersburg, Moscow, Kazan, Norilsk, Surgut, Yakutsk, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Irkutsk, Krasnodar and others and regular abroad flights to: Beijing, Bangkok, Urumqi, Almaty, Dushanbe, Astana, Hannover, Istanbul, etc. As well there are charter flights to: Hurghada, Phuket, Barcelona, and Thessaloniki.
Novosibirsk International Airport provides passengers with a range of services needed to make a trip comfortable and convenient. It is pleased to offer you a wide choice of restaurants, cafes and bars of the famous Russian and Novosibirsk brands (Beerman & Grill, Chashka Kofe, Shokoladnitsa, Coffee House, IL Patio, American Bar and Grill, and Mama Rasha). In the shops at the airport, including the ones of the international duty-free shopping network Runway, passengers can purchase clothing, handbags, jewelry, watches, cosmetics, gifts and souvenirs from the world’s leading manufacturers.
Enhanced comfort halls and a free mother-and-child room for passengers with children under 7 years of age operate 24 hours a day. Passengers can also use ATMs, a 24-hour pharmacy, post office and baggage packing stands.
Passengers can stay connected via wireless Internet Wi-Fi in all halls and areas of the terminals of domestic and international air routes.
The airport is a place for many events, like:
