Cathedral Preobrazheniya
The Cathedral Preobrazheniya of Lord in the city of Novosibirsk is the main temple of the Transfiguration Diocese of the Roman-Catholic Church.
Construction of the temple building began in 1992 and was completed in 1997.
On August 10, 1997 the cathedral was solemnly consecrated by His Grace Bishop Joseph Werth, at that time – Apostolic administrator for Catholics of the Latin ite of the Asian part of Russia.
Construction of the diocesan church designed by Novosibirsk architect Vladimir Vasilevich Borodkin was started in spring of 1992. The cornerstone was laid on March 19, 1993. It contains the stone taken from the tomb of St. Peter the Apostle. There is now the Cathedral and the Curia of the Bishop (diocesan administration) on 0.2 hectares of the land plot.
The architecture of the cathedral is based on the stylization of the forms of Romanesque and Gothic architecture of Western Europe. The cathedral building is faced with red face brick.
The parish house, which also houses library and catechism rooms, is adjacent to the cathedral building.
Along its perimeter, the temple is surrounded by a covered gallery, which hosts festive processions and sacred processions on special days. The towers, in which bells are installed, are erected at the three corners of this gallery. They call the faithful to every Holy Mass, strike at noon when the traditional prayer "The Angel of the Lord" is recited, and also count the pulse of time: the only chiming clock in the city at the current moment is installed above the central portal of the cathedral
