NOVISIBIRSK STATE CONSERVATORY NAMED AFTER M.I. GLINKA
Novosibirsk State Conservatory named after M.I. Glinka, founded in 1956, was the first music college in Siberia. There are six departments (piano, orchestral, folk instruments, vocal, conductor, composer-theoretic) for preparing specialists in all major areas of musical art. Here are realized all educational levels: college, higher education, postgraduate study, assistant-internship, doctoral studies. There are student performance groups: two symphony orchestras, an orchestra of Russian folk instruments, a choir, an opera studio. There is The Council for the Defense of Candidate and Doctoral Dissertations.
The Conservatory conducts a large-scale scientific, publishing, creative and cultural-educational work, aimed to studying and spreading the monuments of art of numerous peoples of Siberia and the Asia-Pacific region. The Institute of Music Culture of Siberia, the Archives of Traditional Music, the Museum of the History of the Conservatory are open in the university. Annually the Conservatory conducts several sets of international concert events aimed to bringing European and Asian cultures closer together.
