Shop in the village of Pokrovka
The ancient village of Pokrovka stands on the old Moscow highway, along which all the trade traffic of Siberia went. The two-week fairs were held in the village in the period from October 1 till October 14. These fairs brought together both sellers and buyers from all surrounding villages and cities.
Merchant P.I. Melnikov put his shop at the most crowded place in the village. The building was built for centuries. It was made of red strong brick, iron shutters and doors, with bars on the windows, large basement, and strong locks. Wide, high porch with railings gave it a grand appearance. The shop sold food, kerosene, leather goods, stearin candles, i.e. everything that the peasant economy needed.
Currently, the merchant Melnikov's shop continues to serve due to its purpose. Since Soviet times, it has housed the rural store with food and industrial goods for the villagers.
