The natural monument “Elbansky fir-wood”

The natural monument “Elbansky fir-wood” was founded on February 25, 1999. Its total area is 689 hectares. It is a boggy fir forest with a rich set of plant and animal species.

On the territory there are plant species typical for dark coniferous forests, but rare for the Novosibirsk region: sour cherry, common wolfberry, Siberian mountain ash, Tatar honeysuckle, wild bird cherry.

“Elbansky fir-wood” deserve attention as a place of habitat for rare species of plants and animals, included in the Red Book of the Russian Federation and in the book “Rare and Endangered Plants of Siberia”. First of all, we can name species of plants of orchids, like lily curly and other rare plants which allows us to mark the features of the natural complexes of the glacial period.

The animal world of the natural monument is rich and diverse. Here you can find such rare species of birds, like bearded Owl, the eagle owl, the spittle, the large spotted eagle, the goshawk, the long-tailed bullfinch endemic for Siberia, rare species of woodpeckers - three-toed.

A special zoological survey of fir forests in the summer of 1998 revealed the habitation of more than 500 species of insects and other arthropods. Among them Armenian bumble bees, the Apollo butterfly and the pigeon Rimn are recorded in the Red Book of the Russian Federation.

On the territory of the natural monument it is allowed to collect berries, amateur and sport fishing, excursions. Prohibited: economic activities, the collection of rare and endangered, as well as decorative plant species, mushrooms, making fires, the organization of tourist camps.

Location: the Novosibirsk region, Maslyaninsky district, next to Elban village

How to get there: the distance between maslyanino village and the natural monument is 34 km by car, the distance between Novosibirsk and the natural monument is 190 km by car. There is the scheduled bus between Novosibirsk and Maslyanino village from Novosibirsk Bus Terminal. From Maslyanino village to Elban village there is scheduled bus as well.
