“SIBERIAN WIDTH” ARCHITECTURAL MOTIF
In the center of Novosibirsk you can see the architectural and artistic composition - four sables holding the golden sphere (stylized to the cupola of the Theatre of Opera and Ballet). This composition is called “Siberian width”. It symbolizes the unity of the historical past, present and future of Novosibirsk - the capital of Siberia and the center of the Siberian Federal District.
The monument was opened on June 28, 2008, on the eve of the celebration of the 115th anniversary of Novosibirsk. The authors of the project are the Novosibirsk architects Yuri Burik, Alexei Kovalenko and Yevgeny Boyarishchev.
The choice of a place for the composition is not accidental. The explorers and pioneers of Novosibirsk started the city from that place; they cut through pine forest from south to north. Thus, “Siberian expanses” - this is a tribute to all researchers and pioneers of Siberia.
