Novosibirsk Museum of railway equipment named after Akulinin

Novosibirsk Open-air Train Museum was founded in 2000. It is one of the most famous museums in Russia and it is called in the name of its founder and facilitator N.A. Akulinin, the deputy head of the Railway. This museum is the newest and largest among Russian train museums and its’ exposition clearly demonstrates how important the railway transport was for development of Novosibirsk and its area. Unlike the other Russian train museums, and many other train museums all over the world, the collection of the Novosibirsk museum contains not only locomotives, but also cargo and passenger cars, as well as other railway machinery, namely snow removers, handcars, and machines for constructing and repairing railway tracks. It includes more than 100 items that have been used on a railway of western Siberia, some of them are true rarities like a steam train built in 1912, an armored Tsar’s railcar and a hospital train equipped with a kitchen remained from the Great Patriotic War. Incidentally, all the exhibits in the collection are in good working condition, and they actually are used every year in May to commemorate the victory over Nazism, when a Victory Train composed of authentic World War II cars travels the tracks (including a surgery car where operations were performed while transporting badly injured soldiers to hospitals away from the front).

How to get there: you can get to the museum by electric train along the routes "Novosibirsk-Glavny - Cherepanovo", "Novosibirsk-Glavny - Iskitim", "Novosibirsk-Glavny - Dorogino", "Novosibirsk-Glavny - Berdsk", "Novosibirsk-Glavny - Lozhok" to the railway station "Seyatel". The museum is located 170 meters from the Seyatel station.
